Join Us Now Service & Charity are at the heart of the Knights Brother Knight, I hope this email finds you and your family in good health. Have you ever found yourself saying “Gee we have the same 5 or 10 or 15 guys turning out to work every event.” Well guess what – if your council had more members, there would be more hands to carry the load. And more men growing closer to Christ through Christian service. And I bet I can help. Our Supreme Knight, Patrick Kelly, challenged State Deputies at their annual meetings in June to create a “Culture of Invitation”. In his own words: “When Father McGivney called that fateful meeting in St. Mary’s basement, he asked Catholic men to join him. More than 80 responded. Why?” “Because Father McGivney invited them to be part of something greater than themselves. … From the very beginning, Father McGivney created a culture for the Knights — a culture of invitation, in which Catholic men ask other Catholic men to join them in a great work.” He also cited research that showed Catholic men’s willingness to join an organization like the Knights. “A recent study by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate shows that in the United States alone, close to 7 million Catholic men – one third of all Catholic men – are open to joining a Catholic men’s organization such as the Knights.” But they haven’t joined, for a simple reason: They have never been invited. What does this mean in Texas? There are about 8.5 million Catholics in Texas, and about 3.5 million are men aged 18 and older. So of that number, about 1.2 million Catholic men in Texas are willing to join the Knights if they simply are invited. Let that sink in. There are about 118,000 Knights in Texas. But TEN TIMES that number are willing to join us if simply asked. There are hundreds in your parish. I know I’ve often said “yeah I’ve been in the Knights for decades – I’ve asked everyone I know to join the Knights”. But after reading our Supreme Knight’s comments, I decided to think otherwise. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a young couple with two small kids a few pews in front of me. After Mass, I commented to him how well behaved his kids were. He said “thank you – we’ve been working on it”. I then asked him if he was a Knight and he said “no, but I’ve thought about it”. After describing our council, he said “sure I’ll join”. He pulled out his phone and joined on the spot (at kofc.org/join). He then made his CUF the next week. Saying that we’ve asked everyone we know is just an excuse. There are plenty in our parishes we don’t know. And there are many men turning 18 every year we don’t know either. So for October – we are challenging every Knight in Texas – invite just one man to join the Knights after every mass. One Knight – One Man – Every Mass.By this simple act – your council could easily make your Star Council goal this month. You’d probably double it. We ask all Knights to make this commitment for the duration of October. Tell your wife to remind you – she won’t forget. The harvest is there – we just need to bring it in. Vivat Jesus! What do I want them to do (call-to-action)? Create a great offer by adding words like “free,” “personalized,” “complimentary,” or “customized.” A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like “for a limited time only” or “only 7 remaining!” Ron AlonzoState Deputy6633 E Highway 290, Suite 204Austin, TexasCall +1 512-442-1492Talk To Us |
