“The wide variety of good works undertaken by the Knights of Columbus in service to Christ and his Church demonstrates your Order’s spiritual vitality as it strives to carry on the vision of its founder, Father Michael McGivney.” St. John Paul II spoke these words to a delegation of Knights of Columbus at the Vatican on Nov. 6, 1995 — one of many times he addressed the Order, urging Knights to remain steadfast to their founding mission and Catholic faith.

In His Words: St. John Paul II Addresses the Knights of ColumbusFrom his election in 1978 until his death in 2005, Pope John Paul II addressed more than two dozen messages to the Knights of Columbus, from messages of welcome and appreciation to the K of C Board of Directors to formal greetings sent to the annual Supreme Convention. The pope’s words were often characterized by appreciation and admiration for the Order’s work, as well as by reflections about its mission in the Church and the world today.  Mother Teresa Documentary Returns to Theaters, Debuts in Canada Nov. 2Back by popular demand, an encore presentation of Mother Teresa: No Greater Love will be playing in theaters across the United States on Nov. 2. In addition, the film will be screening in Canada and the United Kingdom Nov. 2-3, and a Spanish-language version will play in select U.S. theaters on Nov. 7. Knights Support Victims in Ukrainian CitiesThe cities of Chernihiv, in northern Ukraine, and Irpin, near Kyiv, were both devastated by the Russian invasion. Knights of Columbus from Blessed Mykolay Charnetsky Council 16890 in Irpin recently stepped in to help residents with donations of food, medicine and more. WATCH HERE
 
 Everyday Hero: Ron CormierRon Cormier runs a half marathon every Sunday. He can do it in any kind of weather, given the climate in New Brunswick, Canada. What Ron could not do was sit by when his K of C council was asked to help local children coming to school without lunch. As he was about to run his first full marathon in New York, Ron came up with the idea for Lunchbox Grandpa. With help from his brother Knights, he used his run to raise funds for meals at the school for an entire year. His story was told in season 3 of Everyday Heroes. WATCH HERE

The St. Pius X Youth Ministry, with God’s grace, has proudly sponsored the El Paso Southwest Youth Conference since 2000. Our mission is to reach out to teens by bringing them closer to Christ through the Holy Eucharist. The conference is a great venue that affords the opportunity to reach them at their level. We encourage

teens to develop a relationship with Jesus and help them to use their gifts to serve Jesus.  

Knights Step Up After Recent Hurricanes!

In the aftermath of hurricanes Fiona and Ian, Knights of Columbus from the Caribbean to Newfoundland organized local relief efforts to help meet immediate needs in their communities.

Knights Respond to Hurricanes Fiona, IanHurricane Ian caused at least 137 fatalities and billions of dollars in damages when it crossed Cuba and the southeast United States in late September, making it the deadliest hurricane to strike the state of Florida since 1935. Ian followed close on the heels of Hurricane Fiona, which inflicted enormous damage in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic Sept. 18-19 and along the eastern coast of Canada on Sept. 24. In the aftermath of these natural disasters, Knights of Columbus from the Caribbean to Newfoundland organized efforts to help with cleanup and distribution of essential supplies. READ MORE
 
 Ukrainian Knight RememberedWhen Oleg Vorobyev, a member of Blessed Hryhorij Lakota Council 17651 in Lviv, first joined the Anti-Terrorist Operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine in 2015, he was moved by the plight of his fellow soldiers, many of them ordinary men who suffered while separated from their families. Returning home, he and his wife, Olga, founded “Happy Together,” an organization to provide support for family relationships and marriages of men in the ATO. When Russia invaded Ukraine last February, Oleg was called again to fight for his country. He was killed in battle May 30 near the city of Popasna in eastern Ukraine. Family and friends remember Oleg as a man of love, faith and patriotism. WATCH HERE

Welcoming Life Against the OddsFaith was in college, working as a waitress, engaged, and pregnant. Her fiancée pressured her to abort her unborn child, something she could not bring herself to do. Faith found the support she needed to continue her pregnancy at the Pregnancy Resource Center of Rolla, founded by Joe Dalton and his wife, Jane, with help from Joe’s brother Knights. Plan to order copies for your council and the men of your parish when they become available on Nov. 1. District Deputy CornerLAST CALL: DDs are required to submit the new online Annual Report on Council Status (Form 944) for every council in their district including those that are dormant, inactive, or suspended. This report, which takes less than two minutes to complete, was due September 15. Since this is a new report, we will accept late submissions through October 31. District Deputies who fail to meet this deadline will not be eligible for the Star District award unless an exception is requested and justified by their State Deputy.

From outreach to the homeless in Toronto to helping children in Georgia study during the COVID-19 pandemic, Knights are known for creatively practicing the Order’s principles of charity, unity and fraternity, and putting faith into action. As David Chamberlain, whose story is featured in season 3 of Everyday Heroes, explains, “We pray together, we work together, and if there’s something that needs doing, there’s always people there.”

Young Knights Share Faith and FraternityAndrei Dias was 23 years old when he joined the Knights of Columbus in Mississauga, Ontario, and 33 when he became charter grand knight of Blessed Carlo Acutis Council 17693 in Bond Head in March 2021. He especially wanted to recruit men who would be active, engaged and committed to building fraternity. It turns out that he was not the only young man looking for that kind of connection, and the council quickly grew to 40 members, many of them in their 30s and 40s. READ MORE | WATCH HERE
