From its beginnings, the Knights of Columbus has drawn inspiration from Blessed Michael McGivney’s vision of unity. One of the Knights’ original incorporators, Daniel Colwell, noted that the Order itself “was designed to unify American Catholic citizens of every national and racial origin in a social and fraternal organization, giving scope and purpose to their aims as Catholics and as Americans.” During Black History Month, the Order is proud to honor the faith and contributions of African American Knights, including the professional athletes featured below. |

Floyd Patterson: Heavyweight Champ and KnightFloyd Patterson was one of the greatest boxers of all time, with 55 wins, an Olympic gold medal and two Fighter of the Year awards.
